Studying in Canada can be a great opportunity for those looking for an international education. Canada remains at the to of the list for many students studying abroad, and for good reason. Studying in Canada provides students with great access to education, and high level careers, both in the country and abroad.
If Canadian provinces entered Pisa tests as separate countries, three of them, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec, would be in the top five places for science in the world, alongside Singapore and Japan and above the likes of Finland and Hong Kong.
BBC News
This isn’t the only place where Canadian education excels. In fact, Canada place high in almost every educational category. This places Canada in third, right behind the US and UK. Canada also ranked first place for quality of life, third best country overall, and third best for women.
If this isn’t enough to persuade you, Canada has also become a rapidly growing tech power. Vancouver B.C. even surpassing San Francisco at 29% growth to their 27%. That’s a 21% growth rate increase in just over a year. On top of that, Us News also ranked Canada first for quality of life among 80 nations, spanning every continent.
For students looking to study abroad, what more could you ask for?
Studying in Canada
Almost every University and Post Secondary institute offers programs for international students. Even public elementary and high-schools offer host programs for students looking to study in Canada. Within the public school system students can take advantage of a variety of programs, including ESL focused high-school learning, with accreditations that help these students continue on to post secondary.
The process for these programs is relatively simple.
Time needed: 150 days
- Apply to an Educational Institute
Before coming to Canada students must first apply to a school. If their grade and credits match that schools entry requirements, they may receive a letter of acceptance.
- Apply for a Study Permit
Once a letter of acceptance has been received, we can begin filling out your immigration paperwork. Some documents required for this process include, school records, letter of intent, passport, and proof of funds to support your stay in Canada.
- Wait for Approval
Once all document and forms have been completed, all that’s left to do is to wait for the governments approval.
Hong Kong Student and Youth Program
Students coming form Hong Kong will follow a similar process as the one listed above. However, this new program comes with a few added benefits. The Government has announced new immigration measures supporting students and youths from Hong Kong, as part of path for them towards permanent residency. This is a clear path for youth to move from study to work to permanent residency, in an easy and efficient process.
Canada is offering open work permits valid for up to three years for recent graduates from Hong Kong. Having an open work permit means that they can come to Canada first, and start looking for a job while they are here. The overall goal of this plan is to create a path for permanent residency.
The permanent residency path will begin in 2021, with the following requirements,
- minimum language ability
- education level
- 1 year of work experience in Canada
Keep in mind that, one year’s work experience is easily gained through the previously mentioned open work permit. To elaborate, applicants may first arrive under an open work permit, and then continue on to permanent residency. The Canadian Government has dedicated resources specifically for expediting study permits for Hong Kong residence wishing to peruse education within Canada.
